I'm currently teaching a class of 69 college freshmen with iPhones. At this point (6 weeks in) it looks to me like the tools are good, but in the end it all comes back to "what you do with them." (day-by-day account on my blog starting next week).

So call it whatever you want ; )

Dave,
I put up a comment on our blog in response to your comment essentially agreeing with you that tqonership and engagement are not the same and suggesting a Venn diagram way of thinking about it where there might be some overlap. But what I think is most important and what I learned from you comment is that they interact. Engagement builds ownership of a concept/task, and ownership creates an expectation (even in the self) that one is engaged with the concept/task.
What I also found potentially very powerful is the point about building of ownership of ones actions in general by a pattern of engagement. That sounds very much like what I hope experiential education would do for students in college and thus help create (with the classical academic curriculum) the kind of active life-long learners that we professor-types all hope college will produce.

Uh, Dave? Directed tweets are not private. The only way to tweet privately, per the good folks at twitter is to set up a private account and approve those you want in the inner circle to follow that account.

Seems like a much bigger hassle than just sending email when you need to keep things a bit more private...

Nice post! Your Granddad was a wise man! My own Granddad thought that one should do a proper job like being a civil servant which he, his father and his grandfather did for all their working lives. It wasn't about enjoying your job, it was about doing something respectable.

Did you know that Clark's post was part of a blog carnival hosted by Dave Ferguson? See my contribution. You should send Dave a link.
